The article presents a painted terracotta toy unique for the Northern Black Sea Region, a whistle in the shape of a bird originated from the excavation of the Greek-Scythian fortified settlement Kara-Tobe in the Northern-Western Crimea. The archaeological material accompanying the find and its stratigraphic location are analyzed in the article on the basis of which the narrow dating of a cultural layer of the publishing material is offered. The authors conclude that the work is a musical toy widespread in many countries from the ancient times, had become the origin for a musical instrument ocarina. This is, obviously, the first find of such kind in the Northern Black Sea Region.
