The articles presents a hoard found during excavations conducted by archaeological mission of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2010 in Jericho. The hoard contains 54 folles of Anastasius I, Justin I, Justinian I, Justin II and Maurice. Most of the folles were minted in Constantinople; rest coins were struck in Thessalonica, Cyzicus, Nicomedia and Antioch. The latest coin in the hoard is the
Maurice’s follis dating from 592/593, which actually provides the terminus post quem for its concealment.
The hoard belongs to the most common type of copper hoards from sixth-century Palestine and it is of great importance for study the monetary circulation in the eastern provinces of the Byzantine Empire in the context of historical events.
