The paper considers problems associated with the characterization of female burials in the South-East Baltics in the case when there is no anthropological source. Based on the materials of the Sambian-Natangian and early medieval cultures of the Prussians, archaeological markers of the social gender are distinguished, which can be compared with the data of burials allowing for the determination of biological sex and age.
