The article focuses on previously unknown episodes in the biography of the archaeologist V.S. Adrianov restored on the basis of archive materials and an investigation file kept in the Archive of the Office of the Federal Security Service for St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region. Among the case records an envelope with “physical evidence” was preserved which proved to be a letter to A.A. Zhdanov with a request to include ethnographic trips in the scientific plan of the Academy of Sciences. This document made it possible to completely restore the tragic train of events that eventually led to the arrest and execution of the young researcher.
