It is impossible to obtain a comprehensive description of the industrial culture of Rus without studying the role of rural crafts. In this regard, of great interest is the issue of the extent to which rural settlements were affected by changing technological priorities in the middle of the 12th century. Archaeometallographic study of smithery from the settlement of Stepanovo 2 is greatly promising for reconstructing the big picture of the rural ironworking in pre-Mongol Rus.
